Portion of newly opened Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway damages

Bengaluru: A portion of the newly opened Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway was damaged at an overpass near Bidadi.

After the damage was detected, officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took up the repair works. The upgraded Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway-275 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Sources pointed out that the damage at the overpass is the same location where a truck toppled last year. It is said that several vehicles have faced minor accidents while travelling through the portion.

Lok Sabha member representing Mysuru-Kodagu Pratap Simha clarified that “It was minor repair work carried out on the expansion joint of the overpass and that the road has not been damaged.” Pratap Simha shared the picture of the repairing work carried out on the expansion joint.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged the highway has not been constructed as per the standards laid down by Indian Road Congress (IRC).

Surjewala added that construction at many places is ‘unscientific’ and materials used are of ‘substandard’ quality. He also alleged improper alignment and poor planning pf the road project.
