Hyderabad: Shell pellets injure housewife
Hyderabad: A 43-year-old housewife was injured by pellets from a shell while her husband was cleaning the shell with a screw driver. Police said the woman, Singidi Sirisha Reddy, suffered injuries in the area between her pubic region and thighs. She is stable now.
Singidi Venkat Reddy stays on his 89-acre farm in Goudavalli village along with wife Sirisha and 12-year-old daughter. The land is owned by his father who is an ex-serviceman and Venkat Reddy cultivates dragon fruit. As there are no guards, he procured an airgun to keep away animals which spoil his crop.
On Monday evening he was cleaning an old shell using a screw driver. Suddenly the shell burst and pellets pierced Sirisha’s body. She collapsed in a pool of blood. He rushed her to hospital. However, police got a tip off and rushed to the spot. They collected samples of the pellets and blood stains.
Balanagar DCP Dr Y. Sai Shekar said they seized the airgun and the weapon used for firing shells. Police is checking if Venkat Reddy had an arms licence. "We have sent the weapons to check if it is prohibited. The pellet particles and blood were sent for forensic analysis," the DCP said.
Other officials said Venkat Reddy could have got the shell from his father who left it in the house in which Venkat Reddy had been living since birth. Police recorded Sirisha's statement and registered a case for endangering safety and violation of Arms Act.
