Pair of Tigers arrives at Adumalleshwara Zoo

BENGALURU: Two captive bred tigers, a male and a female from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru have been shifted to Adumalleshwara Zoo in Chitradurga making their display the first in the zoo history.

The tigress shifted to Chitradurga zoo is named Nisha aged 4 and the tiger, which is yet to be named, is about a year old. Deputy Conservator of Forests Rajanna told Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday that the tigers will be in quarantine and under the observation of vets for about 10-days to take note of any injuries and their health condition before they are put in enclosure for public display.

To welcome the new arrivals at the zoo in Chitradurga, officials have constructed a 2,500 sqft enclosure wherein shade, water, holding room, fencing and glass view point have been provided.

The new arrivals, DCF Rajanna said, will be kept in separate enclosures as of now and added “It takes years for the tigers to get compatible before they are kept in a single enclosure.”

Presently, Chitradurga zoo accommodates 6 leopards, 4 sloth bears, jackals, Indian birds, black bucks, spotted deer among others taking the tally of animals at the Zoo to about 172.

Rajanna exuded confidence that the arrival of tigers would draw more visitors to the Zoo and presently about 150 people visit the Chitradurga Zoo every day and the DCF hopes that with the increase in visitors, the zoo's revenue will also go up.
