Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Tuesday arrested writer Kamal C. Chavara for allegedly misbehaving with city police commissioner Sparjan Kumar after entering his office in an inebriated state. Mr Chavara arrived at the commissioner office along with the family of two lady students who were allegedly subjected to moral policing by SFI workers at University College and shouted at the commissioner accusing the police of pressing weak sections against SFI workers.

He continued with the ruckus in the office in spite of the appeals by the lady student and people accompanying them to stop. He was arrested and taken away by Cantonment assistant commissioner K.E. Baiju who was present at the spot. He has been booked under section 353 of IPC for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty. Mr Chavara was earlier charged with sedition at Nadakkavu for an alleged insult to the national anthem.
