Tushar Vellapally not to strain NDA alliance
Thiruvananthapuram: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan is an unhappy man as far as his relations with the BJP central and state leaderships are concerned. However, his son and BDJS state president Tushar Vellapally looks quite content though he does not go to Delhi often to meet the BJP leaders. The duo have been keeping silent for some time now, but on Monday Vellapally lashed out at the BJP leaderships for not keeping their promises. According to BJP leaders, the duo come out with contradictory statements on the BJP-BDJS alliance to share the limelight.
“Vellapally does not have any tie-up with the BJP as he is only the Yogam general secretary. Tushar is at the helm of the BDJS and only his statements matter,” said a BJP general secretary. Tushar, who is also the NDA convener, told DC that all is well between the BDJS and the BJP. “We are waiting for the Assembly elections to get over so that the central BJP leadership can decide on our demands,” said Tushar.
Vellapally’s major demand was to rename the central university at Kasargod as Sreenarayana University. Tribal leader C. K. Janu of the Janathipathya Rashtreeya Sabha, an ally in the NDA’s Kerala chapter, was the first to criticise the BJP leadership for not giving due recognition to her. Janu, leader of the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha, is commemorating February 19 as Muthanga Day which has the silent blessings of the BJP state leadership.
After Vellapally’s comments came out, BJP state leadership started damage control measures. Former BJP state president P. K. Krishnadas told DC that the NDA Kerala chapter would hold the NDA state co-ordination meeting in Kochi on February 25. “Post-UP elections, the central leadership will hold talks with the BDJS leaders and chalk out the game plan for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections,” said Krishnadas.
