Kerala High Court asks Chottanikkara panchayat to list plans to tackle pollution
KOCHI: Kerala High Court has asked the Chottanikkara grama panchayat to inform the steps than can be taken to curb the pollution at Chottanikkara. The court issued the order on a plea filed by hotels at Chottanikakra against the closure notice issued by the district administration. The court had appointed a commission to look into the issue. The court had earlier reserved the case for orders. In the meantime three more hotel owners moved the court.
Hoteliers contended that they are ready to comply with the directives of the court and sought permission to appoint an expert panel. The Ernakulam Collector had earlier submitted before Kerala High Court that discharge of effluents by hotels and other establishments through the PWD drainage was the main reason for the present pollution of drinking water sources in Chottanikkara region.
