THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Attappady has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. But this time, the fifth standard tribal students of various government schools, who were provided training by the 'Project Shine' initiative for the All-India Sainik School Entrance exams, are coming out with a manuscript on how to combat malnutrition. The book will be released at a camp being held at Attappady Hill Area Development Society (AHADS) at Agali on April 8.
The coaching classes for 99 students, including 58 girls, belonging to various tribal hamlets in and around Attappady had started in July last. With the entrance exams to Sainik School and Navodaya School over last month, the ‘Project Shine’ team decided to continue their weekend classes to teach them about the world they are living in.
“Ninety-nine of our students have evolved into model students. They have been divided into several groups of eight members. If one group gives a story, the second group will give a letter and the third a travelogue. We act as facilitators,” said Babu Mathew, convener of 'Project Shine' . The students will produce manuscripts and their photostat copies so that all the 99 students will get their copy.
