Kozhikode: Poets win hearts on wedding eve

Close to 15 poets in and around Koyilandy participated in the 'Kaviyarangu'.

KOZHIKODE: 'Kaviyarangu' on marriage eve is considered to be a bizarre idea in rural heartlands where singing and dancing to the tunes of film music in the late evening is the trend.

But the stereotype was broken at the marriage function of budding poet Anagha M.N. at Naduvathur in Koyilandy on Sunday where the poets won the hearts of locals.

Close to 15 poets in and around Koyilandy participated in the 'Kaviyarangu'.
The idea was initiated by their WhatsApp group, 'Kavyabhumi', and the parents of Anagha nodded. Thus three and a half hours on the eve of the wedding was filled with poems, poets and creative energy.

"We thought it as a good idea and as a welcome change. The residents actively took part in the unique event with keen interest and enthusiasm," said Rajan Naduvathur, a poet and relative of Anagha.

Playwright Sivadas Poyilkavu, poets Biju T.R. Puthenchery, Raghunathan Kolathur, Suresh Parappram, Rukhsana, Jobi Mathew, Kareem Kayateel, Shamsu Pooma, Unnikrishnan Keecheri, Bindu Babu Pookad, Binesh Chemanchery, Ganga and others recited their poems.

"It was refreshing and novel experience at a wedding home. The elder generation who cannot read also enjoyed it through good recitation," said A. Padmanabhan, a septuagenarian.
