HC Closed PIL on Violation of Pre-conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques Law

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday closed a PIL in respect to the violation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC-PNDT Act), 1994.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Anil Kumar was dealing with a letter addressed to the court by Amrita Ahluwalia. The court had earlier appointed L. Ravichander, senior counsel as amicus in the matter.

It was brought to the notice of the court that the prominent hospitals are violating the provisions of the PC-PNDT Act 1994 which was subsequently confirmed by a surprise visit of the National Inspection and Monitoring Committee in March 2012 in Warangal and Hyderabad.

The committee during the visit seized 29 ultrasound machines and six ultrasound clinics for violation of the said law.

The bench while closing the PIL relied upon a status report filed by the Director General of Police, stating 19 criminal cases were registered between 2016-2022. Accordingly, the bench said no further orders are required to be passed and closed the PIL.
