Hyderabad: With the threat of Covid-19 still looming large, this year’s Christmas celebrations will take yet another hit. Many churches, preferring to give importance to the health of people over traditions, have suspended the popular practice of carol singing groups visiting homes.
However, all is not lost for carollers and patrons of this tradition, as several churches have put in place carol singing in their premises. Some churches have agreed to have visiting carollers if sought by members of their respective congregations. They will be smaller groups, though.
According to Rev. David Gollapalli, pastor, Baptist Church Hyderabad “We have cancelled carol rounds, keeping in mind the Covid situation. We will have a carol programme this Saturday, where all church members will participate in singing and in worship.”
Rev. B. Joseph Christopher, pastor of Centenary Methodist English Church, said “After a thorough discussion with members and the clergy, all churches of the Methodist denomination have decided not to have carol rounds. Singing of Christmas carols will only be allowed in churches.”
“We have made smaller groups, keeping Covid precautions in mind. There will be a combined carol service in churches,” Rev T. Bhasker, pastor of Wesley Churches, said.
