Germany offers support for Kochi Smart City

Technical support promised for various development schemes.

KOCHI: Bilateral cooperation between Germany and Kochi is going to be strengthened further with the German Consul General offering all support for the projects to be undertaken under the Smart City Mission in the city. Margit Hellwig Bötte, Consul General from Bangalore, while visiting Mayor Soumini Jain on Tuesday, promised technical support for various development schemes being carried out. The city already has three projects which are being implemented with German support such as the decentralized sewage treatment plant, executed with the technical support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), climate change mitigation programmes under the technical guidance of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEL) and the European Union’s SOLUTIONS – climate change mitigation project supported by the German scientific institution Wuppertal International Institute.

The Consul General asked about the progress of the implementation of the three projects during the discussions with the Mayor. Deputy Mayor T.J Vinod, additional secretary A.S Anuja, German consul member Dr. Sayed Ibrahim, councillors David Parambithara, Delena Pinheiro were also present. Later, she visited the Kochi Metro and the sites for the Water Metro project. She also held discussions with the senior staff of Kochi Metro Rail Limited including managing director Elias George.
