CPI: Kerala police mustn't emulate Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI national executive member Benoy Viswan said his party had always disapproved of Maoists ideology, but never justified the killing of people who choose to dissent. When asked about the attack unleashed by CPM leaders against him, the CPI leader said the ideological battle against Maoist ways cannot be based on the likes and dislikes of leaders. “We disagree 100 per cent with their ideology. The Maoist path was experimented many decades ago. But being inapplicable in Indian conditions, the path was abandoned. We view them as strayed comrades and not as class enemies. We don’t look their dedication towards the ideology they believe in with contempt,” he told this newspaper.
The CPI has always believed that change will not come through the barrel of gun, but organised struggle of the working class. “A section of comrades who refused to accept out stand and eulogised the Maoist path, split the united Communist party in 1964. Later, another section moved away saying that the new party had also deviated from well stated path giving birth to the Naxalite movement. Those who have read the history of Indian Communist movement would be able to understand these developments,” he said. The CPI believes that the Maoists should change their ideology and for making that happen an ideological debate should be conducted.
“As Communists we don’t agree with the method of shooting down the dissenters. CPI is opposed to the right wing propaganda of Red Terror. When it comes to such important issue, the Left forces cannot swallow everything that is given by Thunderbolt top brass,” he said. The CPI leader said Kerala police cannot act like their counterparts in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. “This is what CPI comrades have stated. And by saying so if we become dreamers so be it. We will always hold this dream close to our hearts,” he said while taking a dig at Kannur CPM district secretary P. Jayarajan who referred to CPI leaders as “dreamers”.
