Pet owners to be penalized for dog attacks

Following the increasing menace of pet attacks, the Authority has decided to make the owners responsible

Noida: In view of the increasing dog attacks in the city, the Noida Authority is all set to implement a new policy to check the menace.

The authorities announced that owners of the pets, dogs or cats, would be penalized if the animals attack civilians in their localities. A fine of Rs 10,000 would be imposed on the owner. This apart, the owner of the pet will also have to pay towards medical bills of the victim.

The new policy would be enforced from March 1, 2023, according to Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari.

The new policy was formulated after a discussion at the Board meeting held in the second week of November. Following the increasing menace of pet attacks, the Authority has decided to make the owners responsible for the untoward incidents caused by their pets.

The Authority also made it mandatory for all the pet owners to get their animals registered through Noida Authority pet registration app by March 1, 2023. In case of non-registration of the pets, the owners will be penalized.

Sterilisation and vaccination of the pet dogs was made mandatory. In case of violation, a fine of Rs 2,000 per month would be imposed from March next year.

The Noida Authority also informed that special vet camps will be organised, with the help of locals, for treating sick and aggressive stray dogs.
