Budget slashed for Urdu Academy schemes in Telangana

The government had provisioned Rs 10.51 crore for the TS Urdu Academy during 2020–21 but the same was revised to Rs 8.8 crore

HYDERABAD: Telangana State Urdu Academy is concerned over the state government not releasing the budgeted amount for various schemes the academy is expected to implement during the current financial year.

The government had provisioned Rs 10.51 crore for the TS Urdu Academy during 2020–21 but the same was revised to Rs 8.8 crore. The government, which had earmarked Rs 2.13 crore for preservation and promotion of Urdu language, brought down the amount to Rs 1.27 crore in the revised budget.

The government allotted Rs 2.55 crore for construction of Urdu Ghar-cum-Shadikhana, Rs 90.43 lakh for staff salaries and Rs 1.07 crore for other expenditure.

However, it has just released only Rs. 1.28 crore for construction of Urdu Ghar-cum-Shadikhana.

Sources said though the government had sanctioned Rs 4.40 crore for 26 schemes to preserve and promote Urdu language, it has not yet release a single pie.

Social activist Syed Ifteqar Hussaini says Urdu Academy has become paralysed due to lack of funds. “How can the academy carry out its activities under such circumstances,” he asked.

Ifteqar Hussaini lamented that the finance department was not clearing various bills forwarded by various minority organisations, due to which they are facing problems.
