CM Pinarayi Vijayan to dedicate 6 improved roads in Kozhikode today

The roads in Kozhikode underwent improvement as part of the project of the Kerala Road Fund Board.

Kozhikode: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the function marking the completion of Kozhikode City Road Improvement Project (KCRIP) on Tuesday at Chevarambalam St Mary’s School ground. Excise minister T.P. Ramakrishnan will be the chief guest.Six important roads underwent improvement as part of the project of the Kerala Road Fund Board. They are Stadium-Puthiyara (0.644 km), Rs 8.47 crore; Kovoor-Vellimadukunnu Road (2.735 km) '23.83 crore; Karaparamba- Eranhipalam and Arayidathupalam- Kalluthankadavu Road (4.526 km), Rs 26.31 crore; Gandhi Road-Mini Bypass and Kuniyilkavu-Mavoor Road Junction (3.435 km) Rs 30.46 crore; and Panathuthazham-CWRDM road (8.45 km), Rs 18.60 crore.

The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) received the construction contract, which included the Arayidathupalam, and Eranhipalam flyovers. All drainage works, sidewalks for pedestrians, junction improvements, culverts, bus bays and all appurtenant road furniture formed as part of the project.

“The project was in public-private participation under which contractors upkeep and maintain them for 15 years. The financing is also the responsibility of the bidder," M.K. Raghavan MP told reporters here on Monday. “The project combines construction, maintenance and operations in one bid package. In fact, such a project is the second in the whole country, the first being the Trivandrum city road project.” Legislators A. Pradeep Kumar and Dr M.K. Muneer and officials from the district administration also attended the press briefing.
