Some light at end of cash crunch tunnel
Chennai: Amid the chaos and unrest on the streets, there were a few heart warming stories from bank-goers on Sunday about the “superb” service by bank branches in dispensing cash in record time.
Netizens took to Twitter to share their “bank hopping” experience on a holiday with most heaping praises on managers of respective branches who made their visit pleasant and fruitful. A few branches of both public sector and private banks had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the waiting time of customers is drastically reduced from the earlier two hours to less than 20 minutes now.
Aravindan, who works in a BPO, said he was pleased with the services of the ICICI Bank at the Ekkattuthangal branch on Sunday as he left the premises within 20 minutes of entering for depositing cash in his account.
“I thought my Sunday would be ruined. But I was in for a pleasant surprise. I came out in just 20 minutes. I am really happy that my Sunday was saved,” he said.
Bhavani Giddu, a PR professional, took to Twitter to share her experiences with Kotak Mahindra and Indian Banks in the city. “Kotak Bank in TNagar and Indian Bank in Mylapore Chennai doing a great job! I had the pleasantest of experiences in both banks today,” she wrote on Twitter.
London-headquartered Standard Chartered Bank also came for praise by people who said most of their ATMs were working and dispensed cash as quickly as possible. “Standard Chartered Haddows Road Great Service with 7 counters. Dynamic manager and super team,” R.S. Venkataraman, whose Twitter handle is RSV, tweeted.
Abhishek D Shah was also all praise for the Bank when he tweeted that an ATM belonging to the bank on the busy GN Chetty Road was working and the average waiting period was just 20 minutes.
At the Secretariat branch of Indian Overseas Bank, the manager and his team were in for accolades. “The bank process went on smoothly. The bank manager was kind and patient. The police staff have been friendly and helpful too,” a woman was heard telling another.
The Canara Bank branch on St Mary's road came in for high praise from housewives amnd elderly citizens who found the work at the bank most systematic. Helpful staff instructed customers on formalities and where the forms were kept while staff handling cash deposits and withdrawals worked efficiently non-stop to tackle the queue of people.
