Rush for notes slows down in Thrissur

It is alleged that some of the bank officials were unnecessarily creating a panic among the public by coming on TV debates.

Thrissur: The rush for notes in Thrissur town at banks and ATM counters were less on Sunday as compared to the last three days. The ATM at e-lobby at SBI in Naduvilal and SBT main office near Paramekkavu Temple functioned all through the day as officials managed to re-load money from the banks functioning adjacent to the ATM counters. The Manager at the AGM office of SBT, Ravi PK, told DC that notes of several small denominations like Rs 100 and Rs 50 had arrived at the SBT main office near Paramekkavu and had been redistributed to more than 20 branches of the bank in Thrissur.

The ATM at HDFC main branch on MG Road also functioned till noon and the ATMs of other banks which functioned on Sunday morning ran out of money in two to three hours. “The SBT main office had deputed the employees of the banks to guide the people for filling vouchers when they stood in queues at the bank for remittance, withdrawal and exchange of demonetized notes,” he said.

Sijo Joseph, the Manager of the Main Branch of Dhanalakshmi bank at MO Road said that the situation would ease in two to three days and the officials of his bank had been speaking to all the customers who panicked at the branches. “We will be getting notes of different denominations other than Rs 2,000 notes on Monday in response to the indent we had submitted for receiving funds,” he added. He also said that some of the bank officials were unnecessarily creating a panic among the public by coming on TV debates. At the head post office at Sakthan stand, till Sunday only Rs 2000 notes had been given to the public while exchanging the old notes.
