Nellore: Selfie mania kills 3 men on beach

The dead and four of their friends had gone to the beach for swimming. They went deep into the sea, taking selfies.

Nellore: The selfie mania among youth claimed the lives of three young men on the Mypadu beach in SPSR Nellore on Sunday morning. The dead and four of their friends had gone to the beach at around 10 am for swimming.

Four of them went deep into the water while taking selfies ignoring danger. The other members of the group also followed them and they got caught in the waters. The alarm raised by a member of the group before going down saved the situation.

Otherwise, things would have turned disastrous. Some fishermen saw what was happening and jumped into action, but they could save only four of them.

Indukurpeta sub inspector S.K. Sheriff said that everyone in the group could have been saved if they had been near the others swimming on the beach, but the youths went away from the crowd.

The deceased are S.K. Nadeem, 22, a resident of Isukadonka in the city, S.K. Musavir, 22, of Rail Street in the city and N. Harish, 24, of Kanuparthi Padu. Nadeem and Musavir were working in a Hero Honda showroom. Harish was an engineering graduate and was looking for a job.

The sub inspector said that those who were saved were aged between 20 and 30, and two of them were working for Hero Honda. The other two in the group were their friends.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed when the bodies of the deceased were taken to their homes with parents and relatives wailing uncontrollably. With the relatives flatly refusing to file a complaint, the police recorded statements and allowed the families to hold funerals.
