Chennai: Narco queen in police net
Chennai: As part of an ongoing drive against ganja peddlers and high end hookah joints in the city and in the wake of a marijuana turf war that left three dead in Kannagi Nagar two weeks ago, the Chennai police arrested the 57-year-old “Narco Queen” from Ashok Nagar along with her young woman associate.
Police also busted a hookah joint in Sastri Nagar in Adyar and arrested two persons. “We have been nabbing peddlers during the last few days. Rajeswari, a resident of KK Nagar, who is believed to be a main supplier of ganja for agents in South Chennai, was arrested from Ashok Nagar on Saturday along with her cousin Lakshmi (29) of Kavnakarai and another relative Rajesh (24). We are looking for two more associates of the gang,” noted a senior police official.
Police seized two kg of ganja from the suspects. By arresting Rajeswari, police believe that they have snapped one major supply chain of ganja in south Chennai.
According to the investigators, Rajeswari had been under the police scanner for last many years. “She was arrested many times. But whenever she comes out of jail she again starts doing the marijuana business. Though we were aware that she was again doing the narco business, we could catch her with ganja only on Saturday,” a police official noted.
The Chennai police also arrested two brothers who were running a coffee shop cum hookah joint in Sastri Nagar. The arrested were identified as Monish Jain (26) and Aneesh Jain (21), who were running Ankaara City on 3rd cross street in First Main Road in Adyar.
“We believe that lot of teenagers and under aged children were frequenting the place and are addicted to hookah smoking. We have seized 400 gm of substances which were used for smoking. We are sending the substance to the lab to check the content,” a senior police official said.
