Kerala local leaders up for peace initiatives

However, the IUML leadears condemned the absence of state leaders from peace talks.

KOZHIKODE: Condemning the inaction of the police in controlling violence and arresting the accused in the recent bomb attacks, local leaders of Vanimel and Nadapuram have come forward with peace initiatives. CPM district secretariat member V.P. Kunhikrishnan, who called the first press conference seeking the support of all the political parties, said the violence would end only with people's cooperation. “The natives have to stand together. Police should take action on their complaints. Unfortunately, no significant action comes from them. So we decided to take the initiative,” he said.

He said the party supported peace initiatives in the are adding it was the IUML that boycotted the peace talks chaired by Nadapuram MLA E.K. Vijayan on Saturday. However, the IUML leadears condemned the absence of state leaders from peace talks. Criticising police inaction on Aslam murder case IUML Nadapuram secretary Ahammed Punnakkal said; “Till now, no ministers visited the area and A.K. Balan, who lives close to Aslam’s house, has not even visited there.”
