JDT Islam Arts and Science college anti-drugs society to spread wings

College gets Excise Dept recognition for its crusade against drug abuse.

KOZHIKODE: On Sunday, the students of JDT Islam Arts and Science college, Vellimadukunnu, which won the Excise department's honour for the best college in the state for its crusade against drugs, revealed their plan to spread their wings outside the campus and work in society. They created a sand sculpture on Kozhikode beach, which was inaugurated by Excise joint commissioner T. Jayaraj. Mr Jayaraj said that the students' initiative was welcome in the backdrop of the growing menace of the drug mafia in society. "All institutions can continue their fight against the growing menace of drugs in society and I suggest there should be a curriculum that advises study into such social issues.

“It can be merged with subjects like social science or languages," he said. This is the only college with a club/society, exclusively for the fight against drugs and the students believe that their main target is to prevent non-users from falling into the trap of users. Student coordinator Saljas Abdusalam said that the club/society would be able to deal with the issues on a larger scale and were preparing a bylaw to do it. The event at the beach also saw the paintings displayed by the high school students of JDT. Excise Kunnamangalam CI M.K. Gireesh and staff coordinator Ajesh A. spoke at the event.
