Captain Vijayakanth confident about going it alone
Chennai: DMDK president Vijayakanth has said that his party had decided to contest the November 19 election to three constituencies on its own as the people had rejected his party's alliance with People's Welfare Front in
the state assembly polls.
“Both AIADMK and DMK parties are there to loot people. Hence we decided to align with PWF in the last Assembly polls. But the people did not accept it. So we decided to the contest alone in this election,” Mr Vijayakanth said while addressing a rally seeking support for his party candidate Thanapandian in Thiruparankundram Assembly seat in Madurai on Saturday evening.
Mr Vijayakanth's stinging remark on PWF has come in the wake of MDMK chief Vaiko terming the decision to name Mr Vijayakanth as the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance in the May election as a mistake. Mr Vaiko later told a news channel that there is nothing wrong in the Vijayakanth's statement.
“It is true. We took an effort to forge an alliance against AIADMK and DMK. When DMDK joined our alliance, there was a strong hope of we doing well in the election and even the media reports also suggested the same. However, the media who supported us till then soon started spreading misinformation against us. So we did not get the expected result. There is truth in what Mr Vijayakanth has stated. We only had an electoral understanding,” he said, noting that PWF continues to have a friendly relationship with DMDK.
