Efforts being made to relocate two villages from Kawal Tiger Reserve

Adilabad: Nirmal collector Musharaff Faruqui Ali, additional collector Hemanth Bhorkade, and Nirmal DFO Sunil S. Hiremath, and revenue officials visited Mysampet and Rampur villages located in the Kawal Tiger Reserve in Kadem mandal in Nirmal district and participated in the gram sabhas. The forests department is planning to relocate these two villages to a plain area from the core area of KTR.

The officials tried to convince the tribals of the rehabilitation package being offered to them that was intended for the relocation of their villages from the Kawal Tiger Reserve. It is learnt that villagers demanded 5 acres of agricultural land and a house as part of the package.

Nirmal collector Musharaff Faruqui Ali told the villagers that they were ready to give 3 acres of agricultural land and a house or Rs. 15 lakh cash to each family as part of a resettlement and rehabilitation package to relocate their villages.

There are a total of 142 families living in these two villages. Officials held talks with the villagers over the rehabilitation and resettlement package being offered to them by the state government.

Officials claimed that a total of 94 families accepted the package of 3 acres of agricultural land and a house, while 48 families accepted for Rs. 15 lakhs.

The collector reportedly told the villagers that bank accounts would be opened in their names and that the amount would be deposited in their accounts in a week. Officials informed that they have already identified 12 acres of land for the construction of houses and 207 acres for agriculture for the families to be relocated. The officials said the relocation of the two villages would start soon.
