Two colleges flouted norms, Kerala High Court told

The persons who claimed to be the representatives of the Kannur college did not furnish the letter of authorisation from the college authorities.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations on Thursday submitted a report to the High Court on the allegations of admission malpractices in Kannur and Karuna medical colleges. The report pointed out that the Kannur medical college authorities had disobeyed the direction of the court to be present before the CEE with all the relevant records, including the particulars of the applications received, those rejected as defective, the details of defects and the final rank list of the students.

The CEE had checked the details of admissions to the college by cross-checking them with the data of NEEET ranks of candidates from the state obtained from the CBSE and the data directly accessed from the CBSE websites. It found some discrepancies in the rank data of admissions provided by the management.

When the proceedings of the Spot Admission Process started at 9.30 a.m. on October 7 at the old auditorium, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, none of the officials of the Kannur college was presented. The representatives of the college reported at the venue only at 11.30 a.m. They furnished the list of a total of 448 applications received without NEET rank and roll, the list of disqualified seven applications, category-wise merit list without NEET rank and roll number and list of the 150 candidates admitted and registered with the Kerala University of Health Sciences, the report pointed out.

The persons who claimed to be the representatives of the Kannur college did not furnish the letter of authorisation from the college authorities. The documents submitted were incomplete as they did not contain the most important information, the NEET rank and roll number of the candidates, the report said. The records furnished by the representatives of the Karuna medical college were not sufficient to start the proceedings, the report said.
