Kochi corporation dampens DTPC's bigger plans for jetty

The project started in April 2015 is already delayed by at least six months.

Kochi: The ambitious project by the Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) to renovate the KSRTC boat jetty complex has hit a roadblock after the Kochi Corporation refused to give NOC to the new building constructed there. As per the plan, the building, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore, would house facilities like ‘Take A Break’ centre, Indian Coffee House, ATM facilities and toilet complexes besides commercial establishments.

The renovation of KSRTC bus stand is complete, however, the inauguration is yet to be carried out due to remaining work of the building complex. The project started in April 2015 is already delayed by at least six months. “The Kochi Corporation is yet to give building NOC. We’ve taken up the matter and discussions are on. A way out will be worked out in the coming days,” said Ernakulam ADM C.K. Prakash, who temporarily holds the position of DTPC secretary. The corporation is learnt to have suggested a few modifications in the structure.

Meanwhile, hundreds of commuters were relieved of the water-logging issue at the KSRTC boat jetty stand faced for years altogether. “The Rs 1.25 crore renovation work being carried out by the District Tourism Promotion Council is in the final stages. A proper drainage system is constructed along with bus shelter, bus bay and lighting facilities,” a KSRTC official said. Also, a new ‘Pay and Park’ facility has been opened near the boat jetty office building for the convenience of tourists.
