KTR Seeks Justice For Adoni Girl Jaahnavi Kandula Death in Seattle

Hyderabad: Following the Andhra Pradesh girl student Jaahnavi Kandula death in USA, the Telangana Information Technology (IT) Minister K T Rama Rao on Thursday asked the U.S. Ambassador in India Eric Garcetti and External Affair Minister S Jaishankar to look into the issue of road mishap in which a Telugu girl died.

K T Rama Rao tweeted on Thursday stating that deeply disturbed and extremely saddened by the utterly reprehensible and callous comments of police officers in the USA. "I request the U.S. Ambassador in India Eric Garcetti and External Affair Minister S Jaishankar to take up the matter with US Government authorities and deliver justice to the family of young Jaahnavi Kandula," K T Rama Rao said.

The Minister also requested the Union External Affairs Minister to take up the matter with his counterpart and demand an independent investigation into the matter. It is tragic that the life of a youngster with soaring ambitions has been cut short but what’s more tragic and shocking is that a limited monetary value has been ascribed to her life.

A 23 year-old student Jaahnavi Kandula, native of Adoni of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, died in a road accident on January 25, 2023 after a Seattle Police car hit the student. At the time of the accident, the Seattle police officers made conversation over the death. The body worn cameras recorded the mishap and voice record of the police officers and the videos went viral on social media.

Jaahnavi went to the USA to pursue her higher education in 2021 and she was pursuing a Master's degree in Information Systems at the Seattle campus of Northeastern University.
