Jayalalithaa sounds civic poll bugle
Chennai: The ruling AIADMK on Tuesday launched its local body election works with party supremo and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa seeking applications from partymen to contest in the polls.
The application forms could be obtained from September 16 to 22 and filled applications could be submitted.
The application forms to contest the Chennai corporation wards could be got from the headquarters, while the forms for the wards in other districts could be obtained from the district headquarters.
Jayalalithaa also named the top functionaries in every district to whom the filled applications must be submitted. The functionaries included senior leaders O. Panneerselvam, R. Vaithilingam, M. Thambidurai, V. Jayaraman, P. Thangamani, S.P. Velumani and S. Semmalai.
The DMK also called for a district secretaries meeting on September 18 to discuss the local body elections and the Cauvery issue. Party chief M. Karunanidhi would preside over the meeting, general secretary K. Anbazhagan said.
The DMK had already called for details from Chennai taluk and area secretaries about their participation in public meetings, programmes and election works. They were also asked to show the minutes book for their party works and added that the process is related to the local body elections.
