Chennai: Hacked man gets run over by lorry

The victim was reportedly standing between the realtor and the two women he was passionate about.

Chennai: A realtor, who is also the DMK's local unit organiser, was arrested after he reportedly hacked a 47-year-old man.

The victim was reportedly standing between the realtor and the two women he was passionate about. The victim was said to have walked on into the Chennai Bypass road when he was run over by an unidentified vehicle on Monday night.

The arrested man was identified as Selvam (48) of Kolathur and the deceased is construction worker Venkatesan, who was living with his wife Jothi (35), in Surya Nagar, Vellanoor near Red Hills.

The assailant Selvam was reportedly in a relationship with Venkatesan's wife and his niece and had been chided for his amoral activities by Venkatesan. But since Selvam was financially supporting the family, the women reportedly encouraged him and it is also believed the women may have suggested the elimination of Venkatesan.

Selvam, who had employed Venkatesan's nephew Raja, went to meet Venkatesan in the pretext of being willing to make amends for the past and took Venkatesan out for a binge session on Monday evening.

He and Venkatesan continued to drink till 11.30 pm on the service road of the Chennai Bypass. A wordy altercation broke out due to the complicated relationships, which culminated in Selvam hacking Venkatesan on his head.

A disoriented Venkatesan then strayed on to the main road when a lorry heading towards Tambaram ran over him and sped away. Selvam alerted the traffic cops claiming it was a road accident and Madhavaram Traffic investigation wing began their investigation.

When the cops were about to wrap up the issue as a hit-and-run, an onlooker tipped off the cops that it was Selvam who had hacked Venkatesan on his head before the road accident.

The cops subsequently alerted Puzhal police who took over the investigation. Selvam was subsequently arrested while his two women companions were being quizzed for their roles in the sordid affair.
