Chennai: The government has advised the public to celebrate Vinayaga Chathurthi at their homes in view of the curfew in force, under which installing idols in public places, taking them out in processions and immersing them in water bodies has been banned.
An official press release gave the advisory in view of the Vinayaga Chathurthi celebrations falling on August 22, reminding the people that the government was making all efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and to protect the people.
The release also urged people to maintain social distancing at the small temples that had been allowed to be open now and also to wear facemasks when they step out of their homes to buy articles in connection with the Vinayagar Chathurthi rituals.
