Group meetings in guise of Kerala Students Union polls
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress factions are holding group meetings in the guise of KSU elections in spite of the AICC fiat banning groupism in the party. The Congress leaders blame it on the AICC which has not so far appointed a high-power committee to revamp the party structure as suggested by the Neyyar camp of the party.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala who heads the ‘I’ group has been holding group meetings at various places, but senior leaders like Mr K. Muraleedharan, KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheeshan and Mr K. Sudhakaran have been staying away. Mr Chennithala grabbed the opportunity for group meetings when National Students Union of India general secretary Sravan Rao cancelled the KSU appointments made by the top leadership of the KPCC.
“Chennithala is holding group meetings in the capital city and in Kochi under the guise of KSU elections. The AICC leadership is not acting promptly,” said a Congress leader. After the Assembly poll debacle, the KPCC leadership had held a two-day camp at Neyyar dam to strengthen the party. The report was given to the AICC leadership which decided on appointing a high-power committee.
“Unfortunately, there has been inordinate delay in appointing the committee. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and Mr Chennithala show camaraderie before the public. Power decentralisation is not happening in the state Congress,” said another Congress leader.
