Telangana to banks: Check land records online

Agriculture secretary C. Parthasarathi requested the banks to step up the pace of crop loan renewals.

HYDERABAD: The steering committee of bank and state government officials on Thursday decided to put more focus on farmer issues like providing fresh loans as well as coverage under insurance. Special Chief Secretary (Revenue) B.R. Meena said the state government had amended the Records of Rights, 1971 and there was no need for farmers to keep their pass books or copies of pahanis for obtaining agriculture loans which were made available online now.

He asked banks to use the government’s land portal to provide agricultural loans. He said revenue records were available online and the correctness of the revenue records could be verified by banks before sanctioning loans. Banks can record their loan charge in the web portal which would avoid multiple financing from the banker’s point of view and fake passbook menace can be completely eliminated.

Agriculture secretary C. Parthasarathi requested the banks to step up the pace of crop loan renewals. He said that as per the data available, Rs 6,056 crore has been lent under agriculture crop loan segment during the 2017 Kharif, by banks covering 8,35,748 farmers in the state which is approximately 25 per cent of the target for the season this year.
