Kochi: An NRI student has approached the Kerala High Court seeking a declaration that NRIs are entitled to seek admission in management seats in deemed universities on the basis of merit. The petition alleged that the authorities are preventing NRI candidates from seeking admission in management quota. Annette Thomas, a non resident Indian argued that she had appeared for the NEET held on May, 7, 2017 and qualified. Annette Thomas, a native of Kochi moved the court against the Director General of Health Services and Medical Counselling Committee.
The plea contended that she is aggrieved by the action of authorities in preventing NRI candidates from seeking admission in management quota in deemed universities in common counselling, and forcing them to take admission only within NRI quota irrespective of their merit. The petitioner is eligible and entitled to seek admission in management quota seats in deemed universities, The law states that NRI candidates are eligible for seats in All India Quota. However, the decision restricts petitioner’s option to NRI quota seats in deemed universities.
