Ezhuthum Varayum' focuses on creative skills of students at Kakkodi school

The Ezhuthum Varayum' workshop made use of the theatre techniques.

KOZHIKODE: The one-day creative workshop held at the government higher secondary school, Kakkodi, on Thursday enabled the 60 student participants to realise their potential. They learnt the various techniques of story-writing, poem-writing, script-writing, drawing and the ways of creativity. The ‘Ezhuthum Varayum’ workshop effectively made use of the theatre techniques.

“It was a confidence-building camp where the students could realise their talents and the output will be compiled in the form of four magazines,” said workshop director A. Aboobacker, a theatre activist. The school has a theatre club which produces notable dramas, especially in the science drama category. “Our drama was the second best in the district last year. The drama rehearsal camp, which is being conducted regularly, exposed the creative sides of the students and we wanted to expand it to other areas too,” said headmaster K. Pradeepan.

The theatre club adopted the lessons in drama form and enacted them on the stage. “That was a good way of expanding students’ interest to academics also. In the workshop also, we aimed to get the result in classrooms,” said high school assistant Bimal Kumar. The students included 35 girls and three differently-abled children. The majority of the participants preferred drawing and story writing. Kakkodi GHSS was the third best in the district in the SSLC results last year.
