Jayalalithaa nod to build 23,476 houses through TN slum clearance board

The TN Slum Clearance Board would provide guidance for the construction.

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has accorded permission for the construction of 23,476 tenements besides individual houses through the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board in various parts of the state.

The 7,204 tenements would be built in Chennai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Erode, Coimbatore, Pudukkottai, Namakkal and Nagapattinam towns, and for the economically backward sections 16,272 individual houses would be built in Chennai, Vellore, Hosur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar,

Madurai and 157 town panchayats during the current financial year. While each unit in the multi-storyed tenements will be raised on an area of 400 square feet having a multi-purpose room, bedroom, kitchen, balcony and bath and restroom, the individual houses would be built on an area of 300 sq ft.

The TN Slum Clearance Board would provide guidance for the construction. A government subsidy of Rs 2.1 lakh would be extended to the weaker sections for taking up the construction on their own lands. According to an official release, since the last five years, the state government had built 59,023 multi-storeyed tenements and individual houses through the Slum Clearance Board.
