Hyderabad: S-I bribed to not harass accused

Saud Amoodi, a resident of Banjara Hills, was arrested by sub-inspector Ch. Srikanth in May 2018 and remanded to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: In less than a month, another sub-inspector of police was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau taking bribe.

Ch. Srikanth, a sub-inspector with the Humayunnagar police was arrested by the ACB for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in order to not harass an accused during his station custody.

In January this year, a case for attempt to murder (U/s 307 r/w 34 IPC) and Section 27 of the Indian Arms Act was registered against one Saud Amoodhi, at Humayunnagar police station.

Saud Amoodi was involved in a brutal attack on a retired ex-navy officer, Ikram Ali Kaleem, 56, in the parking lot of his home, Elegance Apartments, on January 10.

At the time of his arrest, Srikanth demanded and accepted a bribe of '50,000 from Ali Mahmood Al Amoodi, the brother-in-law of Saud Amoodhi, to refrain from harassing the accused.

In June, Saud Amoodi was taken into police custody for a period of seven days, and sub-inspector Srikanth demanded another '50,000 not to harass him and to facilitate the bail proceedings.

He was paid another '30,000 bringing the total bribe amount to '80,000, but the policeman continued to press for the remaining '20,000.

This time the family of the accused approached the ACB, who laid a trap on June 13 and caught the S-I at Masab Tank Flyover.

He and his partner Md. Raheem Pasha were arrested and produced before the Special Judge of the ACB.
