Hyderabad: Mayur Pan shop owner Upendra Varma's wife asked to divorce him

They barged into her house and demanded money.

Hyderabad: A day after Mayur Pan shop owner Upendra Varma’s wife approached the Bowenpally police and filed a complaint against the victim’s family, stating that they are threatened her to get a divorce, the family approached Hyderabad Police Commissioner at his office in Basheerbagh, seeking justice.

According to the police, the victim’s family approached Preethi Varma, Upendra’s wife, and asked her to get a divorce so that the victim can marry him.

Following a complaint, the Bowenpally police booked cases under Section 448 (Punishment for house-trespass), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons) of IPC.

“The family had earlier booked a case against Upendra with the Kacheguda police on charges of rape and cheating, for which he is currently in judicial remand. The family then went to his residence in Bowenpally and asked his wife to get a divorce,” said the police inspector of Bowenpally, P. Vijay Kumar.

The victim has alleged that Upendra Varma had fed her pan laced with sedatives and later videographed in compromising positions. The accused used these videos to threatened the victim, when she asked him to marry her. The victim has also named Upendra Varma’s father, stating that the family knew of their relationship.

On Tuesday, the victim’s family claimed that the charges against them does not hold any ground and that the police has booked a case without any proof.

However, the Bowenpally police has recovered CCTV footage from the place, where the victim’s family is seen talking to Upendra’s wife. “We have CCTV footage which backed Preeti’s claim and we will be investigating the case accordingly,” said the official. The victim, her parents and henchmen, trespassed her house with an intention to hurt and assault her. They also demanded a hefty sum of money,” police said.
