Three including SI die as truck rams into bus near Sriperumbudur

The incident created a traffic snarl on the road for more than 30 minutes on Tuesday morning.

Chennai: Three persons, including a police sub-inspector, were killed and six others injured when a goods carrier smashed against a government bus from which passengers were getting down at Mambakkam near Sriperumbudur on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as SI Radhakrishnan, attached to the Chennai Armed Reserve and Venkiteswaralu and Kanakaraj of Madhanapalli, Andhra Pradesh. Radhakrishnan was travelling in the last row of seats in the bus and the other two were also in the same bus. Six others, including the driver of the truck, were injured and admitted to hospital.

Police said that the incident happened when the bus plying between Kancheepuram and Chennai halted at the Mambakkam stop for passengers to alight and board at around 5 am. The truck carrying bananas from Madhanapalli lost control and hit the bus from behind at that time killing the three on the spot, police said. Radhakrishnan was the only passenger who was sitting on the last row of seats. The incident created a traffic snarl on the road for more than 30 minutes on Tuesday morning.
