Kudumbashree: All-woman team to tidy up offices
Kochi: The district Kudumbashree Mission’s latest venture — an all-woman painting team — has received encouraging response and would soon be seen taking up renovation of government buildings. The Mission has decided to help its members participate in the tender proceedings of such works and would continue to encourage more members to join the field, traditionally a male bastion.
“The first team of five members was trained by experts from Berger Paints India Ltd and it is now finding satisfactory revenue sources. Within three months, the team got seven major works and is in high demand. More such professional batches will be rolled out in the coming months,” an official said.
To help them sustain in the market, the Mission would help them take part in renovation and other similar works undertaken by the government. “We’ll help them deal with the tendering process. Also we’ve requested the Kudumbashree Construction teams too to engage only the members for painting works in projects undertaken by them,” the official said.
The Mission is also in talks with banks to extend loans and other financial support for the team to by painting equipment. The Kudumbashree Mission is also planning to launch the instant bystander project as part of the ‘Age-Friendly Ernakulam’ project of the District Panchayat implemented by NGO MAGICS. Under the initiative, Kudumbashree workers with proven credentials will be trained in extending basis medical care to elderly citizens. The district panchayat will set up a training centre at Maradu for the purpose, the official said.
