Kochi Corporation wakes up finally, to step up sanitation drive
KOCHI: At long last, the Kochi Corporation is swinging into action to deal with the monsoon troubles on the streets by removing clogged drainages and stepping up the waste removal process. The different meetings convened on Monday in 21 health circles in the city and attended by Mayor Soumini Jain, deputy Mayor T.J. Vinod, health standing committee chairperson V.K. Minimol and other standing committee chairpersons decided to step up on a war-footing the monsoon related health and sanitation measures in the city.
The meeting also attended by representatives of residents associations and health department officials decided to observe June 15 as dry day as a measure to fight the mosquito menace and also entrust the health and engineering departments with the task of jointly addressing the issues of waterlogging in the city during monsoon.
The engineering department was directed to use the amount sanctioned for it clearing the drainage on a war-footing. The Corporation officials were also asked to use urgently the money meant for cleaning and sanitation purposes. An action plan in terms of health and sanitation for each division for the next ten days was also prepared at the meeting.
The help of Central and State Governments too will be sought to implement the monsoon-related projects in the city. Homeo medical camps too will be held in different parts of the city to deal with monsoon diseases. The meeting has also decided to take steps to cut and remove the dangerous branches of trees overarching on the streets in the city. The representatives of the residents associations were requested by the health standing committee chairperson to report to her any incident of throwing of waste on waysides.
