‘Roshni’ scores 100 per cent success
Kochi: Roshni, the project initiated by the Ernakulam district administration aimed at enabling the children of migrant workers to have the best opportunity for education and social uplift proved to be a big hit with 100 per cent success rate in SSLC examination. All 18 students who attempted the class 10 examination cleared it. This is the first batch of students to write the exams under Roshni project. M. Dilshad, a student of Binanipuram Government High school secured an A plus in all papers.
The maximum number of students of migrant labourers, i.e. nine students, was recorded from S N H S School, Thrikkanarvattom. Out of this, Aryan Gupta scored A plus in 9 subjects and Nandhana Madhu Deshpande scored A plus in eight subjects. Similarly, there were 4 students in Binanipuram Government High School and five in Elamakkara Government High School. Although Malayalam is not their mother tongue, the students scored A plus in both the Malayalam papers.
There are more than 3,000 migrant students in Ernakulam. The project, which started as an experiment in Binanipuram Government High School, is now a role model for the nation. Project Roshni created a mini India across classrooms with students from various states joining the class. There are about 20 schools in the district with more than 600 migrant students. The project will be expanded to another 40 schools in the coming academic year.
