Several bodies celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The 132birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated on a grand note on Friday with many paying glowing tributes to the man whose relentless pursuit ensured the empowerment of the downtrodden.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao unveiled a statue of Dr Ambedkar at Panjagutta crossroads. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Without Ambedkar, there could have been no Telangana. It has happened because of the provisions under the Constitution that he wrote.”

Ministers Mahmood Ali, Koppula Eshwar and Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi attended the event.

At the GHMC headquarters, after garlanding the picture of Dr Ambedkar, its commissioner Lokesh Kumar said, “The contribution of the visionary remains matchless as he ensured the nation’s progress and societal equality.”

TSRTC celebrated the day at RTC Kalabhavan. Corporation chairman Bajireddy Goverdan Reddy called upon the employees “to follow the ideology of Ambedkar.”

Various programmes were organised on the Osmania University campus after a portrait of Dr Ambedkar was garlanded. Vice Chancellor Prof D. Ravinder, Registrar Prof. P. Laxminarayana and principal of the University College of Engineering, Prof. Sriram Venkatesh were present.

At the ESIC Medical College at Sanathnagar, more than 1,500 employees and 500 students took part in the unveiling of a statue of Dr Ambedkar on their campus.

Addressing the gathering, K. Prakash Babu, additional secretary-general, of All India ESIC officers and employees federation, said “Babasaheb, who strived for the betterment of humanity, spoke about the eradication of discrimination. In our profession also we should treat everyone equally irrespective of their casts, creed and religion in order to build a healthy nation.”
