Botsa lauds village secretariat system

VISHAKAPATNAM: Education minister Botsa Satyanarayana has lauded the secretariat system, saying it is helping in the development of villages and small towns by a systematic rendering of various services.

Inaugurating the newly constructed building for the village secretariat which cost Rs 40 lakh at Ganderedlu under Gurla mandal in Vizianagaram district on Friday, the minister said the secretariat system was one of the innovative steps of chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Addressing a public meeting, the minister said one or two government officials were serving the needs of villages in the past. Now, a team of more than 10 educated volunteers are reaching out to the people in each village.

Their focus is on development, welfare, health and taking the welfare schemes to the doorsteps of the people including the distribution of monthly pensions, he noted.

He promised to provide three-phase power connection to the village and lay pucca roads.

Vizianagaram MP Bellana Chandrsekhar noted that the government was constructing a medical college. Hereafter, better medical services would be rendered to the region’s inhabitants. The region would witness development after completion of the Bhogapuram International airport, for which the foundation stone would be laid soon, he said.

Zilla Parishad chairman Majji Sriivasa Rao said the government had spent Rs 8.5 crore on welfare schemes in the village and for supplying drinking water to homes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
