Nedumnagad: Woman, two kids killed in wall collapse
THIRUVANATHAPURAM: A woman and her two children died while another son suffered serious injuries when a retaining wall collapsed at Nedumnagad near here on Thursday afternoon. Police identified the deceased as Sajina, 26, her three-year-old daughter Shifana and six-month-old son Mohammed Shahin. Her five-year-old son Shifan suffered serious injuries and was admitted to SAT Hospital here. Sajina’s husband Shihab had gone for work during the mishap. The house is located at Kayipadi in Nedumangad.
A plot adjacent to the house was several metres high and a house was situated there. A concrete retaining wall was constructed to prevent land sliding. With water filling in the compound on the top following rains, the retaining wall collapsed and fell over Shihab’s house along with earth and a portion of the house on the top. Shihab’s house was fully damaged. The four were taken out after an hour-long effort. Though they were rushed to hospital, Sajina, Shifana and Mohammed Shahin could not be saved. The condition of Shifan was stable, said local sources.
