Kochi: The NIA Special Court in Kochi is likely to pronounce the verdict on the Mavelikkara Maoist conspiracy case on April 22 following the completion of the trial proceedings. The court has completed the proceedings after hearing 51 witnesses and examining 214 documents. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) which probed the case has submitted that a secret meeting of the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) a frontal oragnisation of the banned CPI (Maoist) was held at a lodge in Mavelikkara on December 29, 2012.
The accused in the case included Mannur Ajayan, Gopal, native of Tamil Nadu and former scientist of Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, Rajesh Madhavan of Mavelikkara, Devrajan of Kollam and Bahuleyan of Thiruvananthapuram. The NIA has slapped charge sheeted the accused under sections 120 B and 124 A of IPC and various other sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 for offences including criminal conspiracy, sedition, unlawful activities, membership and support to terrorist organization. The case was handed over to NIA on May 16, 2013 on the ground that RDF was involved in a conspiracy to recruit people for terrorist activities and waging war against the state.
