Women's panels mooted at Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Ward committees for women are all set to be formed in Vijayawada to coordinate with the police in the name of Mahila Chaitanya Samithilu. Commissioner of police Gautam Sawang announced the decision on Wednesday at a meeting of awareness of women organised by women’s wing of commissionerate of police Vijayawada.
Senior additional public prosecutor A. Radha Krishna Raju also attended the meet as a representative from legal fraternity alongside Chennupati Vidya of Vasavya Mahila Mandali.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gautam Sawang assured women of all help from the police by making the ward committees acting as forums to bring the problems of women of that ward to the notice of the police. Ms Chennupati Vidya and Socialite M.C. Das will be conveners of the city-level committees to monitor all the ward level committees.
Ms Vidya applauded the decision of Mr Gautam Sawang to give importance to women’s wing in the commissionerate and to decide on forming Mahila Chaitanya Samithilu from ward level to the commissionerate level.
The commissioner said that when ward committees bring the problems of the women to conveners and police, both of them in coordination will take up the issues with the department concerned. For example, if legal issues are involved, the police will take the matter to the judiciary to solve the problem with minimum legal hassles.
If the problems are related to women and child welfare also, the conveners will take up the issue with the departments concerned. Police will stand as the first responders for the women’s issues in Vijayawada, Mr Gautam Sawang added.
