Perur Reservoir is the new hope for Rayalaseema
ANANTAPUR: Minister Shankar Narayana applauded Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's efforts in transforming Rayalaseema into a greenbelt by diverting Krishna waters along with other sources to the region.
The decades old Perur Reservoir, part of Pennar River, which gets water through diversion of Krishna waters via Handri Neeva Sujala Shravanthi Madakasira branch canal and also by using Pennar river bed of Karnataka for diversion towards Perur reservoir in Ramagiri mandal.
The Karnataka government had cooperated with AP irrigation officials to divert water through Nagalamadaka pennar river point in Pavagada taluk in Tumkur district towards Perur. The Madakasira branch canal was diverted at the 26th milestone near Turakalapatnam towards Pennar River at Nagalamadaka in Pavagada taluk.
Celebrating the occasion, Rapthadu MLA T. Prakash Reddy took out a two-day padayatra from Nagalamadaka in Karnataka to Peruru reservoir. It concluded on Saturday. He along with Minister Shankar Narayana, Hindupur MP Gorantla Madhav and other leaders offered Jalaharathi towards Krishna River at Perur reservoir.
Addressing the gathering, Shankar Narayana said that YSR's dream of filling the interior reservoir in the state was fulfilled by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had sanctioned the changes to divert water into the reservoir within a stipulated period.
The Peruru reservoir has a total ayacut of 10,000 acres. Prakash Reddy said that Ramagiri, Kanaganipalli and other connecting areas of Perur Reservoir and also the main canal were now assured of enough water. Groundwater sources would increase in surrounding areas of Ramagiri, Kanaganipalli and Rapthadu mandals, he said.
