Plea in Kerala High Court to make parties accountable
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Monday adjourned a plea by industrialist Kochouseph Chittilappally seeking to make political parties and religious institutions accountable the way private persons and business entities are as the Supreme Court has taken up a similar plea. The petition filed by Mr Chittilappally has intrinsic and close connection with the subject matter pending before the apex court, the court observed. Mr Chittilppally moved the court seeking a directive to the Union government to consider a representation filed by him requesting it to issue notifications and audit all deposits made into the account of political partie.
It also wanted all places of worships and religious charitable institutions be taxed in the same manner as done in the case of disclosures of persons or institutions. It will be difficult for religious institutions to segregate demonetised notes received from the period before and after November 8, the day the union government announced demonetidsation of high value notes. So the government should consider evolving a practical approach in treating such notes with a view to bringing them under the tax regime.
