Palakkad: Irom Sharmila, who came to limelight by resorting to a 16-year-long fast demanding the scrapping of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur, will be reaching the Santhi Medical Information Centre at Attappadi here on Tuesday for a one-month stay. She recently suffered an embarrassing defeat in the recent Assembly polls in her state where she could only gather 90 votes and had hinted at quitting politics. The Santhi Medical Information Centre is run by philanthropist Uma Preman, a native of Guruvayur.

Sources close to the centre told DC that there was meditation unit associated with it where patients come for meditation. They also said that the exact reason behind such a visit to tribal and backward regions of Attappadi was unknown. In her earlier interviews, Ms Sharmila had praised Kerala and had expressed gratitude for the love and support the people here had showered on her during her fast.
