Hyderabad: Builder ignored safety norms
Hyderabad: The construction site is ‘bordered by roads on two sides, the main road leading from Shilparamam to Kondapur, and the road leading from the main road behind a temple into a by-lane.
The area of the site on the by-lane is full of steel rods used for construction and are dumped to the screens which cover the construction view. “This could be the reason (for the cave-in). While there is heavy weight on one side, the other side is dug deep and the ground at the boundary had become wet due to water seeping to the site or some leakage in water or sewerage lines,” an official said.
GHMC officials said that on February 23, 2017, they had sanction-ed permission for construction of three cellars for parking and ground and three upper floors, and had instructed the builder to take all necessary safety measures during construction. He was also told to maintain a minimum distance of four meters around the building while excavating the cellar.
Structural stability certificate was issued by Crux Consultancy Services, a certified engineer, stating that the structure is designed as per IS Codes and soil is suitable for the proposed structure and the foundations are designed as per the soil report. “It was found that the builder did not take safety measures while digging and the boundary was not maintained,” the GHMC release said.
