NELLORE: A pal; of gloom descended on Balajinagar in Madanapalle following the death of 11 members of a family in a ghastly road accident at Veldurthi in Kurnool district on Sunday. The victims include three brothers, their mother, sister, wives, children, mother-in-law of one of the brothers and two drivers apart from a close friend of the family.
The brothers are children of Nazeer Bee of Tarigonda village in Pileru constituency. They migrated to Madanapalli to eke out a living. Nazeer Bee had two daughters and one of them died decades back while the second was killed in the accident.
The brothers identified as SK Dastagiri, Rafi and Jafar used to collect scrap from households and also worked in a welding shop.
Speaking to this correspondent, their niece SK Tahseen said her uncles planned the pilgrimage to Ajmer a few days back and invited their close friend Shafi and Rafi’s mother-in-law Ameer Jaan to join them.
They wanted to visit Mumbai and Hyderabad before returning home, she said.
According to Tahseen, they hired a tempo traveller belonging to an owner-cum-driver Nazeer and a mechanic Shafi. Both of them were killed on the spot.
Tahseen broke down while stating that her mother died when she was three years old and now, she had lost her uncles who were taking care of her since childhood. She added that they left home at 9 pm on Saturday and information came about their death around 5 am on Sunday.
